MAGNIFICENT HAGIA SOPHIA

When you first take a look at the Hagia Sophia museum, you will be mesmerized by the stunning gold mosaics. I would know because as an architecture lover, this one took my breath away. I understood the reason why it is one of the world’s most visited museums and Istanbul’s stunning landmark. It’s truly breathtaking from both inside and outside.

Built in AD 360 and considered the epitome of Byzanite architecture, this structure has seen the rise and fall of empires, as well as the birth of a modern nation. In short, the Hagia Sophia has seen more history and culture than I can even comprehend.

From the outside, the building’s history is apparent — A massive dome and a long line of curious tourists waiting for their chance to take a peek inside. For anyone who loves art, I highly recommend you visit the Hagia Sophia. Spend a few hours. Walk around. Take a seat and simply listen to the peaceful quietness. Admire the amazing beauty that cannot be attributed to one culture or religion alone.

I spent two hours inside the Hagia Sophia. It’s one of those places where the massive marble pillars, floor, walls and doors each have stories to tell. It amazed me to see how the religious elements were displayed side to side – the intricate mosaics of Jesus and the Virgin Mary, angels and saints that were uncovered when the building was transformed from a mosque into a museum and the Islamic elements still present with large hanging chandeliers and round placards bearing the names of Muhammad and Allah.

This was one of my favorite trips where I felt my love for architecture come alive. We can organize the same for you. Email us on [email protected] for our Istanbul packages.
